pakistan ranks in the top 20 of global generosity
Pakistan ranked 17th Most Generous Country in the World
In a proud moment for the country, Pakistan has been ranked 17th out of 101 countries in the World Giving Report 2025, which measures generosity around the world. The report produced by the UK-based Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) in partnership with the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) demonstrates how engrained giving is in Pakistani society.
The Great Culture of Helping Others
Wild Giving Report 2025 rankings were based on the three following indicators:
- Helping a stranger
- Donating money
- Volunteering time
Pakistan performed strongly with respect to all three indicators. Particularly with respect to individuals making donations, Pakistan ranked 17th globally for the proportion of income donated by individuals.
Shazia Maqsood Amjad, Executive Director at PCP called it “a moment of celebration” adding “despite tough economic conditions, Pakistanis continue to give not just money but also time to help others in need.”
Charity has Always Been a Tradition
Philanthropy is not new in Pakistan. The culture of Zakat and informal giving to look after each other locally has helped millions. These zealous traditions create a strong social safety net many people depend upon for education, health and emergency help.
PCP’s own research also reflects the wide range provided by charities in areas such as:
- Health
- Education
- Disaster response
- Provision in poverty
Giving in Times of Difficulty
The report also indicates how generosity has persisted even when times are hard. The position of Pakistan in the list illustrates the resilience of, and commitment to, community support and reminds us that being generous is a core value of Pakistan. The Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy is working to strengthen this culture of giving further through researching, partnerships and transparency.
