Pakistan Railways to Enhance Passenger Experience with New Coaches

Pakistan Railways is undertaking a Significant initiative to Enhance its Service quality by finalising Plans to Procure 230 passenger Coaches and 820 High Capacity Wagons under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). This move aims to improve train Speed and Punctuality ensuring a Smoother and more efficient transportation Experience for Passengers

According to an Official from the Ministry of Railways Approximately 46 Completely-Built-Up (CBU) Passenger Coaches have already been Procured with the Remaining 184 to be manufactured Domestically. These Coaches will be Capable of travelling at Speeds of up to 160km/h Significantly enhancing the efficiency of Rail transportation across the Country.

Efforts are Underway to rehabilitate and Reconstruct Railway tracks along with improving locomotive Speeds to ensure timely arrival and Departure of Trains. Infrastructure upgrades including track and Signaling System enhancements along the Karachi to Peshawar Main Line-I (ML-I) as well as track doubling from Lahore to Peshawar are also in Progress to Support this initiative.

Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) plans for the up-Gradation of ML-I include increasing Track Speed to 160 kilometers Per Hour. Moreover the Procurement of Rolling Stock Capable of running at Higher Speeds is Underway, Complemented by a Dedicated fleet of diesel-electric locomotives for freight Operations.

Advanced Signaling Systems such as the Computer Based Interlocking (CBI) System installed at 48 Stations along ML-I, are being implemented to Enhance Safety and efficiency in train Operations.
