PCB to host tri-series with Afghanistan and UAE in prep for Asia Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed changing its bilateral series against Afghanistan into a tri-nation series by inviting the UAE. The sources said the matches will take place in the UAE before the Asia Cup 2025 to acclimatise teams to similar conditions. Two months ago, Pakistan was due to host Afghanistan in August. Now, PCB wants to create a neutral venue for doing the series along with a third team. The cricket boards are in the final round of talks about logistics. The whole schedule will be released after the conclusion of the Asian Cricket Council meeting.

The ACC’s Annual General Meeting is being held in Dhaka, Bangladesh now and is attended by 24 of 25 member nations, enough to allow for business to move forward. The massive support in attendance is being heralded as a success of sorts for ACC President Mohsin Naqvi.

Initially, there was pushback for meeting in Dhaka from India, Sri Lanka, and Oman. However, after some obstacles, Mohsin had success in pushing the meeting  to happen as planned. The BCCI is joining virtually, and Rajeev Shukla will reportedly join the meeting from India too. If the series of three is sanctioned, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the UAE will have a great opportunity to prepare their squads for the Asia Cup. The final decision will be made after the ACC meeting concludes in the next few days. This is a beneficial situation for all three teams, as playing in the UAE offers the opportunity to experience playing in those conditions.
