In 2025 the Pakistan National Institutes of Health verified the third polio case through Polio Eradication labs when testing blood samples from patients from the Larkana district in Sindh province. The government notification demonstrates Pakistan has not solved its polio outbreak problems one year later.
The Polio Eradication Department released this data because Pakistan reported 74 new polio cases in its nationwide studies in 2024. The previous year registered 27 polio cases in Balochistan and Sindh admitted 23 patients with the disease. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa polio team registered 22 infected persons and detected polio across Punjab’s single district.
The national polio vaccination campaign started on February 3 reached 99% of its target and administered essential shots to 45 million children throughout Pakistan.
The authorities in Quetta arrested five parents when they refused to let their children get vaccinated. Assistant Commissioner Maria Shamooun of the polio team in Sariab helped parents overcome their doubts to get 15 unvaccinated children polio drops at their side.
The government leaders arrested these five parents because they will not let vaccinations protect their young kids from polio.
