Strengthening air and trade links with Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan by Pakistan
Direct flights connecting Pakistan and Uzbekistan are due to begin soon, says a spokesperson for the Uzbekistan Embassy. The initial phase would operate once weekly on Saturdays, and negotiations are underway with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority for the necessary arrangements.
Meanwhile, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has engaged in a direct flight service from Lahore to Baku, Azerbaijan, which operates twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
In the light of its new route from Lahore to Baku, PIA recently held an event for travel agents and tour operators during which they were briefed on the flight’s finer details and how the new connectivity will prove advantageous for travel and tourism between the two countries.
The overall goal of these two new routes is to better serve regional connectivity in the spheres of tourism and trade. More than just step-up transportation, these new routes are also stepping stones in creating trade partnerships.
Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Alisher Tukhtaev, commented that both nations are devoted to boosting their bilateral and transit trade. The target is to reach $1 billion in trade, and this will happen sooner rather than later. Joint efforts are now being carried out to increase the trade volume and deepen industrial cooperation.
