AI Machines for passports are a big jump in speed in Pakistan

Pakistan Unveils AI-enabled Passport Machines and New Rules for Identification. Pakistan has taken a significant step towards quicker and more intelligent passport processing by introducing AI-enabled machines that can generate up to 300 passports per hour, said the Director General of Passports, Mustafa Jamal Kazi. Earlier this March, six of these machines were imported, which are now completely connected to the database of NADRA, making the entire process quicker and seamless for the applicants.

“These machines will eliminate waiting time and improve service for all,” Kazi said while describing this upgrade as a major step toward improving passport services in the country. Additionally, the government of Pakistan will now include the names of mothers on passports. This action brings Pakistan up to par with international standards and supports enhanced identification when a father’s name alone is not enough to allow validation. On another note, the federal government is removing the legal facade from citizens of Pakistan who have returned as a result of illegal acts outside the country. Anyone caught for any form of begging and illegal immigration, mainly in the Middle East, will now be seriously punished. Authorities have begun cancelling their passports and even filing criminal charges against them. Other countries have made complaints about these types of activities involving Pakistani nationals.
