Pakistan Fires more than 100 Policemen After They Refuse to Report for Champions Trophy Duty

The Pakistan Police terminated nearly 100 police for their refusal to accept their designated jobs as security during the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. Police of various wings in the police force were relieved of duty who were to be in charge of teams moving between Gaddafi Stadium Lahore and specified hotels. However, Many of them either absented themselves from duty or directly refused to perform it.

The move comes after the Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar said there is no tolerance towards negligence regarding security for international events. IGP ordered strict action against the concerned officers.

Though the reasons for denial remain unclear, reports from local media state that the officers removed from duty had an overwork burden due to long working hours. Even with all this controversy surrounding the police dismissed, it hasn’t caused any incredible security problems for the Champions Trophy. The Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar assured people, saying there are no terror threats over the tournament and Pakistan is successfully hosting the event.

The incident calls to attention security concerns at global large-scale events. Though Pakistan’s cricket team is already out of the tournament, attention still revolves around maintaining players and visitors safety.
