pakistan election commission summons jui f chief after party fails to hold intra party polls report
The Election Commission of Pakistan has summoned the Jamiat Ulema e Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to appear before a four member bench. It’s being reported that the calling is due to JUI-F’s failure to hold intra party elections and submit necessary documents and files to the ECP at the right time frame.
This action is similar to that of the case that took place with Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) for similar reasons leading to the withdrawal of their election symbol before the February 8 elections. ECP’s bench headed by Nisar Durrani is set to hear the case tomorrow, that is thursday. The JUI-F party can lead to cancellation and ultimately fallout as the questions have arised over its legitimacy after the party did not comply with the electoral rules.
Along with this, the ECP has called in Jamaat e Islami (JI) head Amir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehmaan, Awami National Party (ANP) head Asfandyar Wali Khan, and other party leaders regarding tickets being given to female candidates. The notices were sent to 14 political parties including the BNP, JI, ANP and TLP for failing to meet the 5 percent allocation of party tickets mandate under Section 206 of the Election Act with hearings scheduled on Sept 4th 2024.
