In a thrilling showdown at the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Blind Games, the Pakistan cricket team triumphed over its neighbor India by a margin of 18 runs. The match, which took place on a sunny Sunday in Birmingham, showcased the remarkable skill and determination of visually-impaired athletes.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss at King Edward’s School ground, Pakistan’s visually impaired team put up a strong performance. Amassing a total of 187 runs and losing eight wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Leading from the front, Muhammad Salman delivered a stellar knock, scoring 50 runs off just 31 deliveries. Captain Nisar Ali’s contribution of 46 runs from 33 balls and Badar Munir’s quick 37 from 24 balls makes Pakistan’s position very strong.
India’s Ajay Kumar Reddy emerged as the standout bowler, securing four crucial wickets, while Nakula Badanayak managed to dismiss three Pakistani batters. Chasing the target set by Pakistan, India’s visually impaired team encountered a tough challenge and could only manage to score 169 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs.
As the game reached its climax, India found themselves needing 38 runs from the last three overs. However, Pakistan’s Matiullah turned the tide with an exceptional 18th over, conceding a mere four runs. India’s batting order suffered a dramatic collapse, losing three wickets in quick succession, including one run out, reducing their score from 150 runs for three wickets to 154 runs for six wickets.
