Pakistan cricket squad

The Pakistan Cricket Board has named the Pakistan cricket squad for the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka and the forthcoming ODI tri-series with England and Sri Lanka. The selections provide Pakistan with different leadership structures in the two formats as the side enters a crucial period of international cricket.

Sahibzada Farhan will take over as T20I captain, having led Pakistan at the recent Asian Games, while Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue as ODI captain. The choices allow Pakistan to build continuity as well as bring in new leadership in the shortest format.

Sahibzada Farhan To Lead Pakistan In Sri Lanka

Farhan will lead a 15-member Pakistan T20I squad in the matches to be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11 and 13. The squad includes seasoned players like Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah and Saim Ayub alongside emerging talent.

The group also comprises Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Arafat Minhas, Hasan Nawaz, Khawaja Nafay, Maaz Sadaqat, Mohammad Salman Mirza, Muhammad Imran Randhawa, Razaullah and Sufiyan Moqim. The mix provides Pakistan with options in batting, pace, spin and keeping.

Pakistan To Play Shaheen Shah Afridi In ODIs

The 16-member ODI squad will be led by Shaheen Shah Afridi and includes Babar Azam, Salman Ali Agha, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan and Saim Ayub. The squad also has wicketkeepers Muhammad Ghazi Ghori and Saad Baig and boasts a good mix of bowling options.

The seven-match tri-series starts on October 18 with Pakistan taking on Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. Then the tournament shifts to Lahore, where more league matches for Pakistan will be played before the final on October 31 at Gaddafi Stadium.

Pakistan To Face England, Sri Lanka In October

It’s a welcome international competition in both white-ball formats in Pakistan’s busy October schedule. The T20I series will be Farhan’s first test as captain, while the ODI tri-series will give Shaheen and the rest of the squad opportunities against two good international sides.

The combination of experienced players and youngsters also helps Pakistan’s preparation for future international assignments. Home conditions in Rawalpindi and Lahore also provide a chance to build consistency while maintaining competitive standards in both formats.
