pakistan assigned sri lanka for women’s world cup 2025
Pakistan Women going to play World Cup Matches in Sri Lanka
The International Cricket Council has announced that all of Pakistan’s women’s team matches for the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup will be played in Sri Lanka rather than India, the official host of the tournament. The tournament is scheduled to be played in September and October, presumably in India. However, due to long-standing political issues, Pakistan will not play its matches in India. Otherwise, Sri Lanka will be a neutral venue for all matches involving the Pakistan women’s team. Additionally, Israel participated in the 2023 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka for a similar reason.
The ICC sought to ensure no impediment would exist to enable every team to compete in the global tournament and to mitigate any possible diplomatic or security concerns. Pakistan’s cricket board had serious concerns about taking their team to India and requested the ICC to find an alternative location. Based on its deliberation, the ICC determined Sri Lanka was the only reasonable way forward. This decision opens the World Cup for the Pakistan women’s national team and enables the event to stay on schedule.
