pakistan airspace reopens to global airlines –air france still absent
Airlines Resume Flying Over Pakistan’s Airspace, But Not Air France
Several international airlines have resumed using Pakistan airspace following the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan. British Airways, Lufthansa, Swiss Air, Etihad, and Emirates flights are now using the direct flight route; taking the route directly saves time and is more fuel-efficient.
But it isn’t all good news; Air France continues to bypass Pakistan’s skies. Air France continues to divert flights to Indian cities, such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad; even if Air France gets over Pakistan’s skies, Air France still avoids Pakistan. This means longer time commitment to the journey for passengers and has added millions of dollars in operating expenses to Air France, with limited opportunity to recapture those expenses on the inbound flight because of longer times and distances. Air France flights to other non-Indian airports, such as Thailand, were also diverted, instead of flying across Pakistan, and had detours through China instead.
