The NEPRA has filed lawsuits against different DISCOs in 71 reported cases of over billing as informed to the National Assembly. During the period of July-August 2023, more than 4.1 million consumers were observed to have been charged beyond the normal 30/31 days cycle as shown by the investigation that was elicited by PPP MNA Sharmila Faruqui.
In the light of these violations, NEPRA made the use of bills reforms using pro-rata mechanism and therefore some consolations to the affected consumers. The adoption of this mechanism between April and June 2024 caused the changes in consumption categories of approximately 1,194,000 consumers. In an affirmation of NEPRA, it stated that the proceedings it holds against DISCOs allow it to find the latter for their default.
JEDL was ranked the leading distribution company in the NEPRA 2023-24 report with 34 fatalities out of which 32 of them were civilians. The report also highlighted 140 fatal accidents from different areas; IESCO with 26, PESCO 20, LESCO 18 and GEPCO with 9.
