“Minecraft Movie Falls Flat Despite Visual Splendor,” Critics Say

The critics do not see value in the latest video game movie released in theaters. A Minecraft Movie directed by Jared Hess and featuring Jack Black as Steve got mostly bad reviews because it focused more on exciting action than building its characters or funny moments.

A former business employee finds a path to the Overworld cube universe which he can construct as his imagination shows. To defend against enemy Malgosha’s destructive assault Steve allies himself with heroes Jason Momoa’s Garbage Man, real estate agent Danielle Brooks, and foster siblings Sebastian Hansen and Emma Myers.

Although viewers commend the way the movie brought the cubed landscape to visual reality, they feel the script lacks depth and the movie’s interpersonal relationships remain thin. Current audiences do not find great connection between Black and Momoa’s characters despite trying for comedy because both children and adults do not laugh at their jokes.
