Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim took part in the Pakistan-Malaysia High Level Business Dialogue which was held in Islamabad on October 3. He addressed this event and has commented about the investment and economic growth of both the countries. He was also invited to promote the economic ties via the ASEAN – Association of Southeast Asian Nations Forum. He emphasised the importance of maintaining the continuity of policies, close contacts between the business community which helps to improve and increase the economic cooperation.

This visit primarily focused on strengthening the bilateral relationship and to rejuvenate the diplomatic ties, economy and trade between Pakistan and Malaysia. PM Anwar assured that Malaysia’s persistence to balance the bilateral relation of the countries would be regular. Following this event, he attended the conference, and discussions about both regional and international issues. 

Both the countries agreed to sign MoUs which insisted on the boosting of trade which is of $1.4 billion worth. Pakistan assured to export the halal meat which is worth $200 million per annum, 100,000 metric tonnes of basmati rice to Malaysia. It is reported that among the South Asian countries Pakistan-Malaysia is the third-largest trading partner. The trading products which are agreed to import and export by both the countries are

  • Textile products
  • Chemical Products
  • Chemical-based products

PM Anwar shared his happy notes stating that these meetings were “wonderful” and they deeply discussed cooperation in defence, tourism, green energy, agriculture, youth empowerment, and skilled labour. He believes that this would really aid both Pakistan and Malaysia in achieving the great heights in future with a visionary trade and investment cooperation. He is a prolific advocate of humanitarian causes and Islamic values and he followed throughout his political career. During the honouring moment of Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim by the Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari with the highest civilian award “Nishan-i-Pakistan”, he credited PM Anwar for being an avid reader of Allama Iqbal. He added that his reading has made him a great humanitarian in political life. He also praised the continuous efforts of PM Anwar Ibrahim against the oppression across the world and supported the self-determination movements.

Both the countries reaffirmed the resolution, and mechanism during the one-on-one meeting for the progressive bilateral cooperation.
