In a horrific incident, various churches in a Christian area of Jaranwala tehsil in Faisalabad, the third largest city in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, were attacked by an enraged mob on Wednesday.

Police have already arrested more than 100 Muslims because of this incident. Mob reportedly attacked churches and homes of minority Christians in Faisalabad. The authorities moved minorities to safer places. 

A church was fully burned, while four other churches were also damaged. Homes of minorities were also badly damaged during the riots.

Various celebrities have protested the Faisalabad attack on minorities. Pakistani celebrities took to Twitter to protest the incident.

Mahira Khan, a popular Pakistani actress, condemned the incident. She wrote on Twitter, “Shame on us! I can’t… how, why, when did we become this…”

Shehzad Roy, a popular Pakistani singer-songwriter, guitarist, social worker and humanitarian, also condemned the horrific incident. He urged people to stand up against such brutal acts. He wrote on Twitter, “Earlier, we were scared of speaking up. Now, we should be scared if we don’t speak up. If Pakistan does not arrest each and every person involved in the incident, then we are doomed.”

Sajal Aly, a famous Pakistani actress and model, also expressed sadness over the incident. She condemned the violent act against minorities. The popular Pakistani actress wrote on Twitter, “Such a Shameful act! Absolutely heartbroken and disgusted. I condemn this act of violence against minorities. Praying for unity and peace. There is no place for violence in any religion.”

Ushna Shah, a Pakistani-Canadian actress, also expressed sadness over the attack. She reportedly said on Twitter, “As the rest of the country celebrates independence, our minorities burn.”

Azekah Daniel, a famous Pakistani actress, condemned people involved in the incident. She said, “This is not Jinnah’s Pakistan! I condemn this atrocity against the Christian community.”
