Once again, Lahore is gasping as the city is covered with the toxic smog that is making daily life a health lottery. The Lahore smog emergency has ceased to be a seasonal nuisance but a recurrent menace to the population of this state. As the AQI levels are often reaching dangerous levels, the inhabitants are complaining of breathing problems, eye irritations, and an increase in medical visits, particularly in children and the elderly. Without immediate measures, the Lahore smog crisis, experts say, may get out of control into a permanent urban catastrophe.

Why Lahore’s Smog Problem Keeps Getting Worse
This is because numerous factors collide with each other every winter season to make the air dirtier: uncontrolled automobile traffic, industrial smoke, burning of crop residues, and weather conditions that keep the pollutants near the ground. In colder seasons, temperature inversion does not permit the dispersal of polluted air, and such fine particles as PM2.5 can be concentrated very quickly. Although the government has at times restricted it, loopholes in the enactment process have ensured the Lahore smog emergency will keep rearing its head each year, with increased severity. People are moving towards wearing masks, air purifiers, and indoor life, which are temporary measures.
