lahore high court rejects nomination papers appeal, from imran khan pti

Imran Khan and his political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), faced a setback as the Lahore High Court (LHC) turned down Khan’s appeal regarding the rejection of his nomination papers for the upcoming February 8 general elections. The decision, led by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and a three-member bench, supports the earlier decisions of the returning officer (RO) and appellate tribunal. Both had refused to accept Khan’s nomination papers for NA-122 and NA-89 constituencies.

Imran Khan, the founder of PTI and a former prime minister, argued in his plea that the rejection of his nomination papers was inconsistent with the facts. He requested permission to participate in the upcoming polls. However, after considering the arguments from both sides, the LHC bench rejected Khan’s appeal, dealing a blow to his aspirations to contest in the elections.

The ousted prime minister had submitted his nomination papers for the Lahore-based NA-122 constituency and Mianwali’s NA-89 constituency. Additionally, the LHC heard and dismissed similar appeals from other prominent PTI figures, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Hammad Azhar, Khurram Latif Khosa (son of PTI leader Latif Khosa), and PTI activist Sanam Javaid.

PTI is facing more problems because of this court decision. The party leaders are already dealing with many legal issues, especially from the May 9 riots. Some top leaders, like Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi, are now in jail. This makes it harder for the PTI in the upcoming elections.
