From June 5, King Charles will make his way onto UK banknotes, according to the Bank of England. After revealing the design more than a year ago, the new notes will showcase the 75-year-old monarch on five, 10, 20, and 50-pound polymer banknotes. Don’t worry, the notes with the late Queen Elizabeth will still be around.

The Bank of England wants to be eco-friendly, so the new banknotes with King Charles will only be printed to replace old, worn-out ones or to meet an increased demand for cash. This way, they are following advice from the Royal Household and trying to reduce the environmental and financial impact of the change. So, don’t expect to see all the new notes at once – they’ll be introduced “very gradually.

King Charles, who took over the throne after Queen Elizabeth’s impressive 70-year reign came to an end in 2022, is not new to the coin scene. In late 2022, the Royal Mint started circulating coins featuring his profile.
