karachiites struggle with gas outages during sehr and iftar
Gas outages during Sehr and Iftar are causing inconvenience for many people in Karachi. Despite assurances from the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) that there would be no interruptions, several areas are still experiencing disruptions.
Areas such as Saddar, Surjani Town, Garden, Nishtar Road, Punjab Town, Lyari, Agra Taj Colony, Khawaja Ajmer Nagri, Malir and others are affected by gas load-shedding. The SSGC spokesperson, Salman Ahmed, acknowledged the issue, attributing it to the simultaneous use of millions of stoves during these times. which puts pressure on the gas supply.
According to Ahmed, managing the demand and supply gap is challenging, especially with issues in maintaining gas pressure at the tail-end. Despite efforts to follow through on 90% of the schedule for Sehr and Iftar, consumers sometimes resort to unauthorized methods like using compressors to draw gas.
The SSGC had previously announced on March 7 that there would be continuous gas supply during Sehr and Iftar times throughout Ramadan. However, the reality seems to be different for many Karachiites who are still facing gas outages during these crucial times.
