(C)CNN,israel claims killing of hamas chief yahya sinwar raising concerns over gaza ceasefire
Israel has claimed that it has killed Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar in Gaza in a military action that may worsen the violence and influence any peace process in the Middle East. According to the Israeli military and foreign minister, on Wednesday, Sinwar was “killed by IDF soldiers,” and his identity was confirmed through DNA tests. While Hamas militant group has not come out to dismiss the report, reliable sources within Gaza seem to support the Israeli assertion.
Western Reaction and its Consequence
US President Joe Biden described it as a “good day” for the world because it eliminates a major barrier to a Gaza ceasefire and a prisoner exchange. About this, Biden stated: I think this is a good day for Israel, for the US, and the world. There is now the chance for a ‘day after’ in Gaza without Hamas in power and for a political solution that will give Israelis and Palestinians a better future.”
The news was also good for the Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris, who said, “This moment gives us a chance to finally put an end to the war in GAZA.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer echoed the sentiment saying the UK ”will not mourn” Sinwar’s death.
For the US State Department it is a chance to promote a ceasefire proposal and to bring the liberation of the Israeli detainees. Sketching the new course, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said: “We will work harder in the following days to put an end to the fighting in Gaza after the death of the Hamas chief.”
