islamabad excise to launch digital vehicle cards
Islamabad Launching Digital Vehicle Cards for Access and Easier, Paperless Ownership
In a significant move towards modernisation, the Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department announced that it will be issuing digital vehicle cards to vehicle owners registered in Islamabad and the district shortly.
Previously, the department had used vehicle registration books for recording ownership, which was later switched over to smart cards. Now, through the use of the digital vehicle card, the system should make it easier to obtain and renew vehicle ownership.
Linking Parking Payment Systems With the Digital Card
Vehicle owners will no longer need to carry any physical documentation. Once their digital vehicle card is obtained, it will reside in the owner’s mobile wallet. This will come in more handy whenever proof of ownership needs to be provided, which can easily be accessed by simply pulling it up in their phone’s mobile wallet. The new digital vehicle card will also be linked with all parking plazas in Islamabad, allowing users to be able to pay their parking fees using their card. along with access to their traffic challans, ownership details, and any other vehicle-related data
Transfers of ownership will be done online
An official of the department, the director of excise, Bilal Azam, confirmed that this is all done as part of the department’s agenda to make use of technology and to improve his public service program. He expects to enhance the administration’s ability to manage all of the catastrophes around car ownership.
The department is embarking on the next stage of its plan for online vehicle ownership transfers. It will allow buyers and sellers to get biometric verification and transfer documents safely and securely from the comfort of their own home using mobile devices instead of having to go to an excise office.
It will bring reductions in time, reductions in paperwork, and help with safer and better organized vehicle ownership in Islamabad.
