Islamabad Excise Department Launches Major Vehicle Tax Collection Drive

Official from the Excise and Taxation Department Islamabad has declared the campaign against vehicle token tax evaders effective from the 1st of January. The department, under the leadership of Director Bilal Azam, has implemented multiple measures to facilitate tax payments, including extended working hours until 8:00 PM to 04 AM in weekdays and during the special Saturday operations from 10 AM to 04 PM.

In a bid to adopt more of the digital way, the department have also included options of payment through the Islamabad City App smart card holders do not have to come physically to pay their bills as they can do it from the comfort of their homes at any one time. Its processes will seek to simplify the collection of taxes from users of vehicles and enhance their compliance with the law. The department has cautioned that vehicles yet to clear token taxes may be deregistered as they are deemed to have been deregistered.

On the other hand, the Sindh government has launched a new scheme ‘Sindh Vehicle Number Plate Policy’ where private cars contain white number plates with Ajrak texture while commercial vehicles will contain yellow number plates . The policy will be effective from April 3, 2025 for which the yellow number plates on private vehicles and the black plates on the commercial vehicles will become unusable.
