At UFC 311 in Inglewood, Islam Makhachev made history by defending his lightweight belt for its fourth successful defense straight. The Russian champ set a new UFC title defense record by defeating Renato Moicano in under a minute and he extends his winning streak to 15 fights while keeping his professional record at 27-1.
Boe Moicano hastily accepted a last-minute fight but could not defeat Makhachev. The champion quickly defeated Moicano after using a brabo choke that forced him to tap out immediately. Following his victory Makhachev announced his status as the UFC’s top fighter by saying “Any challenger can step into the cage today.”
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov watched his former student and current coach break the UFC record as he stood in Makhachev’s corner during the fight. Dana White from UFC declared Makhachev the best mixed martial artist in the sport today. Makhachev now ranks among MMA’s greatest fighters through this win.
