Imran Khan was the prime minister of Pakistan before. In May last year, there was a lot of violence and trouble in Pakistan. Protesters went wild and attacked military buildings and other important places. Many people were hurt.
Imran Khan has been in jail since August last year. The government has filed many different cases and charges against him. This includes cases where it is claimed he took money in an illegal way (corruption cases). There are also charges that he broke laws about keeping official information secret.
The May 9 violence started when supporters of Imran Khan’s political party became very angry and violent. This happened after their party leader was arrested for suspected corruption. The protesters attacked major military bases and army buildings in multiple cities across Pakistan.
In a recent interaction with media, the military spokesperson strongly criticized the May 9 violence. He demanded that all people involved must be punished for their role in attacking Pakistan’s military forces.
The spokesperson also clearly stated that there would be no negotiations or dialogue with those who attacked and damaged military properties and installations through the violent protests.
Imran Khan said he is okay if the authorities do not want to have talks. He said he does not want to make any secret deals or agreements. Imran also made it clear that he does not want to leave Pakistan and go to another country to avoid facing legal cases against him.
