Pakistani Runners Shine at the 2025 London Marathon
Over 40 Pakistani runners and expatriates made their cherished appearance at the London Marathon 2025 to represent their country. Islamabad’s own Furqan Masood shone brightest, getting onto the top of the list of the fastest Pakistanis with an amazing marathon record of 3 hours, 10 minutes, and 7 seconds.
Running for the Islamabad Running Club, Furqan hit the ground running, buckling in at 5K at 20:44 and 10K at 42:09. But with the hot rising sun and an extending race course, the heat would soon take its toll. After 30K, the pace gradually reduced, but what was visible was his determination for a blazing finish that put him into the top 4500 out of over 56,000 runners.
Many More Pakistani Runners Making Their Mark
Little ahead of Furqan were Salman Ilyas from the USA, Muhammad Fasih Saleh from Norway, Hamza Saleem, and Shah Syed, comfortably amongst the top pack with an impressive 3:23:12.
It was an accomplishment for the 64-year-old Hamid Butt of Lahore, being the first Pakistani to cover the Abbott World Marathon Majors twice and thus collecting the second prestigious six-star medal with a time of 3:41:45.
Pakistanis Keep Pace in the World
The stories of everyone from Raees Ebrahim, Aamar Butt, Adnan Ozair, and Imran Khan among many others made this year at the London Marathon very bright for many other Pakis. The burgeoning number of Pakistani participants is a testimony to the burning love for long distances.
And then there were Danish Raza and his son Abrar Ahmed from Karachi, who were together across the line at exactly 4:55, while leading the pack was Azmat Khan now based in UAE, who made a great time of 3:15:48 for Manchester Marathon.
