UK, Korean & Kazakhstani universities to establish campuses in Punjab

In a high-level meeting on July 24, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved a significant roadmap to transform the province’s higher education system with academic reforms, digital transformation, and international partnerships. Officials confirmed that top universities from England, South Korea, and Kazakhstan are expressing interest in setting up campuses in Punjab. This includes the University of London, Brunel University, the University of Gloucestershire, and the University of Leicester.

UET, GC, and Women’s University to be model institutions

CM Nawaz declared that the University of Engineering Technology (UET), Government College University (GC), and Government College for Women University would be model institutions for the new education vision.

Performance reports

To ensure quality, a new Education Vigilance Squad will conduct random inspections in colleges and universities to review attendance, cleanliness, academic standards, and discipline. Reports will then go to the education minister.

Rankings, scholarships, and the upcoming conference

The government intends to start a colour-coded academic ranking for universities in Pakistan, colour-coded green, blue, yellow, and grey. A College Management Council will also be established for governance improvements in government colleges. The CM knows that there is a very big backlog of students for the CM Punjab Honorary Scholarship and Laptop Scheme, where over 19,000 applications were received. And he indicated to the CM that he would be happy if the system processed as many applications as possible for students. She additionally approved the province’s first Higher Education Conference so that policymakers, academics, and global partners can come together to discuss the future of higher education in Punjab.
