pakistan’s first woman metro driver
Nida Saleh Becomes Pakistan’s First Female Metro Driver
In a historic moment for Pakistan, Nida Saleh has become the first-ever woman to pilot the Orange Line Metro Train in Lahore. Her achievement marks a significant milestone in breaking down gender barriers in the country’s male-dominated transport industry. Nida’s challenges started long before this day and continued long afterwards, but she has always kept going and worked hard, showing that women can work in every profession, even those that were previously considered too out of reach.
Trained and Ready to Lead
Nida went through rigorous training before she took on the full responsibilities of train driver, including advanced training in metro operations, which was carried out by both Chinese and Pakistani instructors. Nida learned the technical and safety aspects of being a train driver. Her success is paving the way for more girls and women to consider entering the public transport sector as drivers.
Encouraging More Women to Join
Nida’s success is not just hers, but rather a symbol of women being able to perform high-tech, high-pressure jobs as well as men. Nida’s place on the Orange Line will allow her to inspire many others to consider careers in areas where women are very underrepresented.
Government Involvement for Women
Her entrance into the metro system is also a show of support by the Punjab government, which has recently taken strides in putting more women in the public service sector. This has been viewed as part of a larger movement to shift toward gender equality in the workforce.
