Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan revealed his two interesting new projects, according to a Variety article during the recently concluded Tasveer Film Market in Seattle, the only Oscar qualifying South Asian film festival in the world committed to promote South Asian cinema.
Khan is set to portray the protagonist in a dark comedy film “Behind the Scenes,” a newsroom thriller produced by Film Lab++ and Modoxy Media. The project brings together renowned filmmakers Mo Naqvi, Sarmad Khoosat and Mehreen Jabbar. Together, these skills promise a compelling, multi-layered, suspenseful, and intriguing examination of the media world.
Khan also got a major role in the crime thriller series “The Prisoner” for Awedacious Originals. Parisa Siddiqi and Ahmer Khan are working on this drama which is set in the 1990s and the story is based on Omar Shahid’s best-selling book. The series is about two courageous police officers who are on a secret mission to destroy a strong political organisation in Karachi which acts like the mafia. One of the main attractions of the series is expected to be Khan’s acting as one of the cops.
Other interesting projects were also announced at the Tasveer Film Market, which focused primarily on promoting South Asian stories internationally. NISA, written and directed by Ambarien Alqadar and presented by Lotus Visual Productions, explores the life of a 28-year-old Muslim lady who struggles with personal issues.
Another notable work is Sheila Sawhny’s “Lone Star Hijra,” which portrays the search for sisterhood of an Indian-American transgender woman.
The Pharaoh of Pharma, “The Chili Score” by Vinny Anand,”Ronald Austin” and “Good Girls” by Hira Sheraz are among the several production deals which Rita Meher’s Luminary Pictures also revealed.
Additionally, the renowned Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga Kapoor worked as project advisor for veteran filmmaker Jahnu Barua’s upcoming India-Australia co-production, “Whistle in the Wind,” at the Tasveer Film Market. The Oscar-winning “The Elephant Whisperers” star Monga Kapoor will come back internationally with this picture.
The success of the Tasveer Film Market shows the growing platform and increasing global reach of South Asian cinema.
