Fawad Chaudhry’s Efforts

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Vice President Fawad Chaudhry met US Ambassador Donald Blome on Tuesday at the US embassy in the federal capital, weeks after his party chief declared his desire to repair relations with the US despite earlier accusing it of treating Pakistan as a slave and alleging it conspired to remove him as prime minister.

Upon being questioned about the meeting, Mr. Chaudhry responded, “It was a typical meeting; nothing exceptional about it.” When questioned if anyone else had been with him during the exchange, he opted not to reply.

The meeting between Mr. Chaudhry and Mr. Blome, which apparently lasted for about an hour, was their second encounter this month, according to the media.

Pakistani Ambassador Based in Washington

On the basis of a diplomatic cypher written by a Pakistani ambassador based in Washington, Imran Khan, the leader of the PTI, accused the US of orchestrating his removal a few months ago. He is also recorded as having questioned why lawmakers from the then-opposition parties may have met with US officials on various occasions, labelling these encounters as “unethical” and “unnecessary.”

Since foreign diplomats frequently interact with lawmakers from both the government and opposition camps, Mr. Khan’s insinuations at the time were met with scorn in official circles. Due to the nature of these discussions, the media is rarely informed of their specifics.

PTI Central Secretary-General

The new Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Gen. Asim Munir, has been urged by PTI Central Secretary-General Asad Umar to mend the trust that has been severely damaged by decisions made over the past eight months between the army and the public.

He criticised Gen. Bajwa, who is now retired, in a statement for his policies, which he claimed caused political unrest, a collapsed economy, and—worst of all—broke confidence between the army and civilians. Gen. Munir should put restoring the nation’s and the military leadership’s mutual respect and love as his first priority, according to Mr. Umar.

According to him, the connection could not be one-sided or sustained through coercion or force. The nation was nevertheless proud of the soldiers who protected their country, Mr. Umar hurried to add, despite the strained relations between the nation and the army.
