The third Edition of the Digital Pakistan Cybersecurity Hackathon 2023 has Kicked off in Karachi Signaling a Significant step toward Fortifying the Nation’s Cyber Defenses. Organized by the State-owned non-Profit Company Ignite the event aims to identify and Nurture talent Capable of thwarting Malicious Cyber attempts. Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecom Dr. Umar Saif Highlighted the Paramount importance of Safeguarding the Country’s Cyber Boundaries. He emphasized Ongoing efforts within his Ministry to Establish the Operational Readiness of Pakistan’s National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the forthcoming institutionalization of a Cyber Security Authority.

The Hackathon will feature Regional Rounds in Lahore, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta and Islamabad Culminating in a final Competition in Islamabad by the end of December. Cash awards Totaling Rs3 million will be Given to the top three teams after the final Competition. CEO of Ignite Asim Shahryar Husain emphasized the importance of building the Capacity of cybersecurity Students and Professionals through a Series of five-day hands-on training Workshops Conducted in ten Cities across Pakistan. These Workshops accommodated an impressive 1,576 Trainees, 57% more than Planned.

The training covered various aspects of Cybersecurity including Security Fundamentals Penetration testing Methodologies, web application Security, Network Security, Social engineering, Wireless network Security, Cloud Security, Mobile device Security and incident Response.

The Hackathon which involves blue Teaming and a Capture the flag-style Competition aims to Generate innovative Solutions to Combat emerging Cyber Threats faced by Pakistan. The event is Part of a Broader initiative to Enhance Cybersecurity Capabilities and foster Collaboration between academia, industry and Government entities. Ignite-sponsored teams have recently Participated in the Black Hat MEA Competition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Showcasing the talent and expertise emerging from Pakistan in the field of Cybersecurity.
