Daughter of Security Guard Makes Historic International Cricket Debut

Shehar Bano from Lodhran is the latest sensation in women’s cricket in Pakistan and now she is the debut player of cricket. The young left-arm fast bowler featured Pakistan’s Under-19 women’s team in the T20 Asia Cup playing her first match against Nepal in Malaysia and this has been a proud moment for her home town Lodhran and south Punjab.

She is from a very low-standard background; Bano is the daughter of Liaqat Abbas, a security guard currently employed with a private organization. She was identified and established during a summer vacation cricket camp, and her talent and aptitude were found. The Tareen Cricket Academy was also supporting her and offering basic equipment and training facilities for the player. Speaking to the BBC, Bano said: ‘If it wasn’t for the academy, I wouldn’t be here.’ She thanked Ali Tareen and her coach Mohammad Nadeem for supporting her.

Head coach Mohsin Kamal produced her first cap during her first match and congratulated her for her achievement. Ali Tareen who owns Tareen cricket academy and Multan Sultans T20 matches has described her as a rising star, the pride of Lodhran. Currently studying at Amna Girls College, Shehar Bano started playing cricket as a mere hobby and rose to join her national team.
