Birth Certificate Rule Relaxed for CNICs — What Pakistanis Need to Know

Birth Certificate rule

The Birth Certificate Rule Relaxed policy has allowed a huge documentation relief among the CNICs in Pakistan. The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has provisionally relaxed guidelines and enables first-time applicants to receive a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) without showing a computerised birth certificate. The program is in effect until December 31st, 2026, and is mainly eligible to unregistered adults, especially women and people in non-serviced rural communities.

Who Qualifies and What Are the Requirements?

According to the Birth Certificate Rule Relaxed in CNICs, women older than 18 years have to submit a valid local government Nikah Nama, CNIC or NICOP, parents or husbands, and biometric verification of parents or husbands.

In the case of men aged 24 years and above, the candidate will be required to provide a valid CNIC or NICOP of either parent, along with a sibling, with one of the parents being obliged to be biometrically verified.

The non-smart CNICs that are issued under this scheme are fully free. Nevertheless, applicants are to be aware that once the information about birth and parentage is documented, there is no chance of doing it afterwards. The Birth Certificate Relaxation of CNICs is intended to assist in decreasing the gap in documentation that covers about 1.7 per cent of the Pakistani adult population. Click to know more.
