Ashab Irfan Secures South Australian Open Squash Championship

Pakistan’s Ashab Irfan has become the South Australian Open champion after defeating Malaysia’s Duncan Lee in an impressive final on Saturday, February 18. The 21-year-old top seed won in straight games 11-8, 12-10, and 11-9 without losing a game in the final. Irfan’s latest achievement is also his second major title in the year 2025, having already won the RC Pro Series title.

The Easiest Road to Victory

Ashab Irfan entered the tournament ranked 62nd, and fortunately received a first-round bye. He then defeated Hong Kong’s Lee Chung in the second round and played a nail-biter against Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah, winning 3-2 in the third round. Irfan then played valiantly against Hamza Khan, a fellow Pakistani in the Semi-finals, before defeating Duncan Lee in Adelaide to become the title winner.

A Career on the Rise

Ashab Irfan now has achieved 6 PSA titles. With his consistently strong performances, Irfan can expect to rise further in the international squash rankings. Playing for prize money of $9000 will also willingly contribute to his growing experience and prestige for Pakistan squash.

When it comes to restoring the hope of reviving Pakistan’s squash heroics and legacy, Ashab Irfan is continuously seen as a potential denominator in the mix going forward.
