Pakistan Turkiye ties remain a significant pillar of Islamabad’s foreign policy, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for greater economic cooperation to strengthen the long-standing political and strategic partnership between the two countries. Speaking at a reception in Islamabad marking the 103rd anniversary of the Republic of Turkiye, the prime minister said there were opportunities to increase trade, attract investment and deepen bilateral engagement.
Pakistan Turkiye Ties Gain Momentum Through Economic Cooperation
Shehbaz Sharif mentioned the Pakistan – Turkiye Business Conference in Istanbul in July, where the President Tayyip Erdoğan Special Economic Zone was announced in Karachi. He also invited Turkish investors to take advantage of the growing market and young workforce in Pakistan as both countries are still trying to achieve their ambitious bilateral trade target of $5 billion.
The prime minister also recalled the historical relations between the two countries, including the support during the Khilafat Movement and Turkey’s help to Pakistan after the 2005 earthquake and 2010 floods. Dr Irfan Neziroglu, the Turkish Ambassador, reiterated the longstanding friendship, pointing to the countries’ shared history and recent cooperation.
Trade And Investment Are Still Priority Areas
Strengthening commercial ties offers Pakistan prospects of foreign investment, industrial development and economic opportunities. Greater Turkish participation in sectors like infrastructure, manufacturing and others could assist Pakistan to achieve its development goals and could also help both countries to move closer to their bilateral trade target.
Continuing diplomatic engagement and practical economic initiatives will be important to turn the historic partnership into measurable results.
