Azma Bokhari
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has accused the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf of circulating misleading videos of protests in Peshawar and Islamabad. She alleged that footage from unrelated incidents was being presented as scenes from the demonstrations.
Azma Bokhari Challenges Protest Footage From Peshawar and Islamabad
In a post on X, she claimed that an old video of a boiler in Jamshoro had been falsely linked to the protest in Peshawar. She also alleged that Indian national Ashok Swain had shared footage of a protest at Jantar Mantar, presenting it as a demonstration in Islamabad.
Emergency Rule Defended in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Bokhari defended the imposition of emergency rule, arguing that the measures were necessary in a province where, according to her, militants enjoyed protection under the provincial government. She also said police personnel were unarmed and citizens had been left vulnerable, and she criticised the provincial chief minister over alleged disrespect for the national anthem and flag.
The comments follow weeks of confrontation, including the march covered in PTI Long March 2026. The PTI has rejected the emergency measures and the allegations of militant links.
Verified Information as a Public Priority
The minister questioned what the PTI had delivered to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during 13 years in power. She described the party’s protests as fake and sarcastically suggested that its next rally be held on the moon, using NASA footage.
The exchange highlights how quickly images can shape public opinion during politically charged moments. Careful verification of videos before they are shared would protect public trust, support responsible reporting and help Pakistan’s digital debate stay anchored in fact.
