UN Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Pakistan on an official 3-day António Guterres Pakistan visit from October 6 to 8, 2026. Regional security, diplomacy and global cooperation are set to be among the major areas to feature in his discussions with the Pakistani leadership.

Guterres will meet President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. The visit underscored Pakistan’s ongoing interaction with the UN on regional and global issues.

Kashmir and regional diplomacy are key issues

The talks are likely to cover Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts on the US-Iran standoff and wider Middle East security. The wider discussion on the region is likely to touch upon Pakistan’s role in promoting dialogue and supporting diplomatic solutions.

Guterres will also visit the UNMOGIP’s Islamabad headquarters to review monitoring of the ceasefire along the LoC. A visit to the National Disaster Management Authority will underscore climate resilience and disaster preparedness, while Pakistan’s role in UN peacekeeping and support for multilateral cooperation will remain important themes during the visit.
