Senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Ali Fadavi has warned that amid Iran US tensions, if Washington launches a ground invasion, Iran would target US military bases and American naval vessels across the region. The warning on Iranian state television comes amid continuing military tensions between US forces and Iran.
The statement adds another layer of risk to an already volatile regional situation, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, and US naval forces are operating near the strategic waterway, and both sides are under pressure to avoid an escalation and protect vital maritime routes.
Pakistan Reiterates Support For Dialogue, De-Escalation
Pakistan has adopted a diplomatic approach to the confrontation between Iran and the United States and called for restraint, dialogue and a negotiated settlement, and Islamabad has been in contact with both sides and backed steps to revive diplomatic channels under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement is particularly important considering that instability around Iran and the Gulf can affect regional security, energy supplies and international trade, and Islamabad has repeatedly stressed the need for safe maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and to prevent conflict from spilling over to neighbouring regions.
The Strait Of Hormuz Still Vital For Pakistan
The Strait of Hormuz continues to be strategically important for Pakistan as disruption to the waterway can impact energy supplies, shipping and food-security conditions throughout the region. Pakistan has, therefore, continued to support efforts for restoration of stable maritime movement and reduction of tensions between the parties.
The latest Iranian warning highlights the need for diplomatic engagement. Continued engagement with regional partners and support for negotiated solutions offer Pakistan a path to mitigate broader security and economic dangers while securing regional stability and freedom of navigation.
