Pakistan has long complained of militants using Afghanistan as a base to carry out attacks inside Pakistan. Islamabad has urged the interim administration in Afghanistan to take verifiable action against groups that the Pakistani authorities identify as a threat to national security.

Along with Tarar’s call for a change in the Afghan government’s approach, an emphasis on peaceful coexistence was made, showing that Islamabad continues to put dialogue forward as an important avenue toward resolution of outstanding disputes.
