Punjab weather alert 2026 has been issued as the PDMA warns of thunderstorms, dust storms, rain and isolated hailstorms across the province till Saturday.
The approaching weather system is expected to affect a number of places in northern, central and southern Punjab, with powerful winds that could disrupt transportation, electricity infrastructure and daily life in several districts.
High-speed winds and lightning activity could cause temporary power outages, uprooting weaker trees and damaging vulnerable structures such as billboards and solar panel installations, authorities have warned.
The advisory comes as Pakistan continues to experience rapidly changing weather conditions during the pre-monsoon transition period.
Northern Punjab Cities Likely to Face Severe Conditions
Several districts of northern and upper Punjab are likely to experience heavy thunderstorms, gusty winds and scattered rain during the advisory period.
A weather alert has been issued for major cities and regions, including Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum and Talagang.
In elevated and mountainous areas such as Murree and Galiyat, travel disruptions caused by low visibility, slippery roads and localised landslide risks during heavy rain may also occur.
Environment Canada is continuing to closely monitor conditions as the system moves across northern sections of the province.
Lahore and Central Punjab Also Under Alert
Central and eastern districts of Punjab are expected to experience thunderstorms, strong winds and scattered rain activity in the coming days.
Cities like Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin and Sheikhupura are still in the PDMA advisory zone.
Some thunderstorm cells are likely to be accompanied by dust storms, especially in open and semi-urban areas, where wind intensity may increase sharply in the evening and night hours.
Authorities have warned that sudden weather changes could temporarily disrupt traffic flow, outdoor markets and public transport operations in densely populated districts.
Southern and Western Punjab May Face Dust Storms and Heavy Winds
Meanwhile, the western and southern parts of Punjab are likely to experience unstable weather conditions with strong dusty winds and isolated thunderstorms.
Affected districts are Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Faisalabad, Jhang, Bhakkar, Layyah and Okara.
Dust storms could also greatly reduce visibility on highways and intercity roads in many areas, increasing the risk of travel for motorists and commercial transport vehicles.
Strong wind activity and rapid changes in rainfall patterns can also be expected during the advisory period, which could cause temporary disruption to agricultural zones.

During high winds and lightning activity, citizens are advised not to shelter under trees, electric poles or weak structures.
Travellers heading towards hilly areas should check updated weather advisories before leaving for their destinations, as landslides and slippery road conditions may occur.
