In a responsible response to the tragic gas pipeline blast in Hattar Industrial Estate, the Hazara Commissioner has formed a high-level probe committee to investigate the Hattar Explosion Investigation and ensure accountability. The incident took place on April 16 in Haripur district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and killed eight people, including women and children and wounded many others.
The inquiry committee shows that Pakistan is serious about being open, keeping people safe, and holding institutions accountable. The government has acted quickly to look into what caused the accident. And to help the families who were affected right away.
Probe Committee Formed to Investigate Causes and Responsibility
The Hazara Commissioner has also set up a seven-member investigation committee that will investigate the explosion in depth and present its findings within a short period of time. The committee is headed by the Haripur Deputy Commissioner, Waseem Ahmed, and will also have senior officials in the main departments so that a multi-disciplinary and thorough review is achieved.
The committee members are the District Police Officer, Medical Superintendent of the District Headquarters Hospital, the District Emergency Officer of Rescue 1122, a technical engineer of the gas department, Additional Assistant Commissioner-II and Assistant Director Industries. Such a variety of representations indicates the gravity with which the investigation is being carried out.
There were initial reports that the explosion could be due to a leak in a 16-inch supply line, which could be due to high pressure in the system. It was caused by a blast around a factory, resulting in a tremendous fire that spread quickly, burning 3-4 houses around it and causing panic in the vicinity.
The committee will look into the possibility that the incident was caused by negligence in maintenance, technical, or unexpected operational reasons. Meanwhile, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has been instructed to conduct its own technical audit to determine the integrity of its infrastructure and detect any failure in safety procedures.
The government has also made sure that the area that has been affected has been secured, and this means that investigators are able to perform a thorough examination as well as prevent additional risk to people.
Pakistan Government’s Response, Compensation, and Community Support
The government has taken quick measures to assist the victims and their families alongside the investigation. Federal Minister Amir Muqam also visited the site and held a meeting with the affected families, expressing his apologies and promising them all the support of the government in such a tough period.
The Prime Minister has announced a compensation package to help people with their financial problems. The families of the dead will each get PKR 1,000,000, and those who were hurt will each get PKR 500,000. The whole package of money is worth about PKR 13.5 million. Along with 11 injuries and eight deaths.
This quick move shows how dedicated the government is. To help its people in a time of need. The goal of quickly paying out compensation is to help the families affected in the short term. While recovery efforts will take place over the long term.
The emergency services collaborated well to rescue people after the explosion. Different districts like Haripur, Peshawar and Abbottabad contributed their level best to put out the fire, rescue people in the area and assist them in receiving medical assistance. The injured were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Haripur, where they received immediate medical attention.
The funerals for the victims were on April 17. All the people gathered to grieve and offer their condolences. The industry and monitoring infrastructure safety standards have also been raised following the accident. Depending on the findings of the committee, the government is most likely to do more to prevent the occurrence of such things in the future.
