Pakistan to Send New Remote Sensing Satellite From China
Pakistan will take an important step in its space journey on 31 July 2025 when it sends a remote sensing satellite to space. The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) confirmed that the satellite will be launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC) in China.
Providing a Boost for Earth Observation and National Development
This new satellite will substantially enhance Pakistan’s Earth observation capabilities. It will facilitate precision agriculture, urban planning, and maintain and monitor infrastructure. It will also likely assist with disaster management by forecasting floods, landslides, earthquakes, etc.
Bolstering CPEC and Environmental Monitoring
SUPARCO stated that the satellite will support CPEC planning, locate and map connectivity routes, and track environmental changes like glacial retreat and deforestation. Its enhanced data collection capacity will also help facilitate resource management and climate monitoring.
The move aligns with its Vision 2047
The satellite will join Pakistan’s existing fleet of remote sensing and earth observation satellites, which include PRSS-1 and EO-1. It is a step toward achieving SUPARCO’s Vision 2047, to make Pakistan a leader in space and satellite innovation.
