Wrestler Legend Hulk Hogan Dies of Cardiac Arrest

Hulk Hogan, one of the faces of professional wrestling for decades, passed away Thursday at 71. The Florida police agency reported that Hogan, real name Terry Bollea, suffered cardiac arrest at his Clearwater home and was pronounced dead at a hospital nearby.

WWE said in a statement that they were deeply saddened by the news of Hogan’s passing, noting he was one of the most influential individuals in wrestling history. Hogan captured the heart of fans in the 1980s, especially after he main-evented the 1st WrestleMania with Mr. T, and his matches with Andre the Giant became legendary and helped draw record crowds and television viewership.

Hogan was not only known for his strength but also for his character and red-and-yellow attire. He was a six-time holder of the WWF World Heavyweight Championship, which not only helped wrestling become a mainstream but also ultimately a global phenomenon.

Hogan shocked the wrestling world when he turned heel as part of the NWO in WCW in 1996, reinventing himself as Hollywood Hogan. This move led WCW to defeat WWE in television ratings for over 80 weeks. He returned to WWE in 2002 and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. Even when the controversy began in his final years, including a leaked video and racial remarks, he never lost his footing as an American pop culture icon. Fans flocked to the internet to pay tribute to the legend Hulk Hogan right after his passing, including tributes from Ric Flair, Triple H, and Donald Trump, who said he was a “great friend with a big heart.”
