Sindh launches $1.4 B IT program to train 35,000 youth
The Sindh government has launched Phase II of the People’s IT Program (PITP) with a budget of ₨1.4 billion (USD 5.5 million) to provide free digital training to 35,000 students.
Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the program was a major initiative to prepare young people for jobs in the global digital economy and called it a “model digital initiative” for Sindh.
More than 13,000 students trained in Phase I
Over 13,500 students were trained in a variety of advanced IT subjects in the first phase. Of these students, 300 of the highest achievers received laptops and Chromebooks to assist their education.
Training in 12 High-Demand Technology Areas
Phase II will have a larger focus on training in 12 major digital sectors, including:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Cybersecurity
- Data Science
- Software Development
- Mobile Application Development
and others
This is intended to get Sindh’s youth ready for both local and international technology jobs.
What is the People’s IT program (PITP)?
The People’s IT program is a Human Capital Development initiative of the Information Science and Technology Department of the Sindh Government. This initiative effectively transforms IT and non-IT graduates or interested individuals to gain exposure, modern technical skills, as well as soft skills from real/active industry experts, while they are practicing and learning hands-on from the expert, referencing the industry requirements.
Objectives and Benefits of PITP
- The primary objectives of the PITP include:
- More than 10,000 youth across Sindh have been trained.
- Improving access to free IT education for all.
- Promoting digital literacy and providing a pathway for addressing the Digital Divide.
- Ensuring the course contents are promote the overall shopping experience for the user to align with industry standards and needs.
- To promote job opportunities in the IT sector.
- Improving the economy by developing tech-savvy workers.
