Pakistan Suspends Northern Flights Following Security Concerns

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) halted all its flights going to the northern region including Gilgit and Skardu in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after security threats grew from the Pahalgam attack. PIA made its announcement on Wednesday as part of its security precautions during rising tensions with India. Multiple connections serving major Pakistani cities have been put on hold between major cities and northern areas.

• Two flights from Lahore to Skardu cancelled
• Two flights from Islamabad to Skardu cancelled
• Four flights from Islamabad to Gilgit cancelled

Nationwide security surveillance in Pakistan has become intensified, while flights are now under maximum alert at all airports. The security measures have become stronger because officials continue to observe developments in the regional situation.

The aviation sources stated that security considerations led to flight cancellations because Pakistan needed to safeguard itself from prospective terrorist actions in Pahalgam. These security measures function exclusively as prevention with the goal of airspace protection during this current period of regional conflict. Regular flight operations for these northern areas do not have a specified date for resumption.
