Pakistani Forces Eliminate 8 Militants in Northwest Counter-Terror Operations

A week ago, Pakistani security forces conducted operations in the northwestern part of the country bordering Afghanistan and killed eight militants in the process. The military operations, which were carried out on Monday, targeted the dens of the militants in the Tank and Tirah Valley districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The militants were reported as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants termed “Khwarij” by the Pakistani authorities and these were gunned down during highly targeted military operations. The operations reveal that Pakistan has continued to resist the growing likelihood of militancy in the area after the Taliban seized Afghanistan in 2021.

Currently, TTP manages its affairs independently but its cooperation with the Afghan Taliban persists and TTP falls under the category of banned organizations in Pakistan. Security analysts talk of the group becoming more aggressive after changes in political leadership in neighboring Afghanistan.

Official sources further point to the fact that the Pakistani military has not changed its posture towards the border areas and often stages dawn raids to eliminate any terror threats to uphold security in the area. The successful raid showed that Pakistan is willing to crack down on militant activities in its northwestern province.
