The Punjab Assembly is likely to pass a historic bill to give hike the salaries of provincial legislators. The proposed legislation, to be tabled during the assembly session chaired by Deputy Speaker Malik Zaheer Channar at 2:00 PM aims to increase monthly salaries of Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) by a handsome Rs400,000.
Earning a monthly salary of Rs100,000 today, MPAs will earn five times as much from the 1st January next year if the bill passes the legislature. This session is also planned to focus on such important administrative issues as delivering the audit reports, responding to the attention call notices, and deliberating on the issues concerning the departmental questions of excise, taxation and narcotics control. The other important event concerning the provincial law and order situation is also planned to take place and should provide for a rather rich legislative process.
The salary proposed increment is a big boost in the remuneration that provincial legislators stand to gain in the political system of Punjab, which may imply enhanced finance aspect of the representatives in Punjab province.
