Internet services have partially resumed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ended its protest in the federal capital, which had led to a major government crackdown.
The services had been suspended for two days on the orders of the Interior Ministry, although users are still reporting problems with the functioning of social media applications.
Authorities have also begun removing containers from the main roads of the twin cities, in a sign of a return to normality. Roads such as the Faizabad Flyover, Murree Road and Faizabad Interchange, which had been closed for several days, have now reopened.
Major motorways, including the M1 (Islamabad to Lahore), the M2 (Sialkot to Lahore), the M3, the M4, the M5 and the Multan-Sukkur motorway, are also open to traffic after prolonged closures.
The Minister for the Interior, Mohsin Naqvi, visited the areas between D-Chowk and Khyber Plaza, where he met members of the law enforcement agencies and praised their efforts and courage during the crackdown.
