Prolific cricketer Mohammad Rizwan has been announced as the next white-ball captain of Pakistan. His first assignment as part of the role is going to be the One-Day International and T20 International series against the Baggy Greens in November.

But neither Rizwan nor the trio, Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah, are going to feature in the ODI or T20I series in Zimbabwe that immediately come next. Salman Ali Agha has been announced as the vice-captain.

“I am committed to giving my absolute best in this role,” a statement attributed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to Mohammad Rizwan stated. Together, the captain and his teammates seek to meet and exceed the expectations of their fans and supporters, it read.

Pakistan set to host ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Central contracts have never been a reliable indicator of squad compositions. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq – both missed out on a central contract – do not feature in any squad, but Mohammad Hasnain’s performance have earned him a spot in all four squads.

The One-Day International against Australia is set to begin on November 4. It’s going to be Pakistan’s first in this format since the World Cup in India a year before. The series is going to kickstart a busy 50-over format for the team.

The Champions Trophy is in February 2025. It’s going to be the first International Cricket Council (ICC) event to be hosted by Pakistan since the 1996 cup. It is a cricket tournament that is contested by top 8 ranked ODI men’s national teams.
