As the much-awaited battle for the Asian championship commences today, the atmosphere is electric with the kickoff of the continental tournament. The first match between Pakistan and Nepal marks the beginning of the Asia Cup 2023 and the opening ceremony at the Multan Cricket Stadium was short of spectacular, featuring performances by celebrated singers Aima Baig and Trishala Gurung. The enchanting City of Saints, Multan, played host to this grand event, with a multitude of spectators anticipated to fill the stadium, creating an energetic ambiance. This edition of the multi-nation tournament takes place across Pakistan and Sri Lanka from August 30 to September 17.

While all matches won’t be played in Pakistan due to security concerns, the tournament is still poised to deliver thrilling encounters. Pakistan is placed in Group A alongside Nepal and India, while Group B consists of Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. The distribution of matches has Pakistan hosting four games, with the remaining nine, including the final, set to unfold in Sri Lanka.

The Asia Cup 2023 adopts the 50-over format to aid teams in preparing for the upcoming World Cup in India later this year. This format rotation between T20 and ODI has been in place since 2016. The defending champions of the 50-over Asia Cup are India, who clinched victory in the last held edition in 2018.

While Aima Baig is known for her previous renditions of Pakistan Super League (PSL) anthems, Trishala Gurung is an exciting new addition to the Pakistani audiences.
